Bret States
Bret States is currently in his thirteenth year as a STEM Coordinator for STEM Workforce Development and Innovation at the San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE). With more than sixteen years of experience teaching middle and high school science, he now focuses on advancing STEM/STEAM education through professional learning, partnerships, and regional leadership. In his current role, Bret supports K–12 STEM/STEAM initiatives across the region and co-directs the Region 6 STEAM Hub for Expanded Learning. He also contributes to higher education by co-teaching a STEM Master’s course for the Teachers College of San Joaquin, helping prepare the next generation of educators. Throughout his career, Bret has been a leader in science education innovation. He has served as a Master Teacher for the Cal Poly STAR Program, a Staff Developer for the K–12 Alliance, and a Faculty Scholar at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he supported the development of the Environmental and Energy Technologies Teacher Research Academy. He holds a B.S. from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and an M.S. from the University of New England. Outside of work, Bret enjoys music, the outdoors, and time with family. He lives in Ripon, California, with his wife and has two adult children.
