Letter Of Interest For Environmental Education Resources

by  Ten Strands
  • March 11, 2022
  • | Blog, Community-based Partners, Equity, Teaching and Learning

We’d like your help circulating a call for Letters of Interest (LOI) for a new project we’re working on related to developing K–12 curricular resources focused on climate change and environmental justice. This is a joint project between Ten Strands, the San Mateo County Office of Education, and the California Department of Education.

You can access the LOI, project synopsis, timeline, and more information here.

We are seeking partnerships with groups and individuals with diverse expertise who can develop, write, and pilot curricular resources. LOIs are strongly encouraged from partners who can bring combined expertise in climate science, environmental justice, traditional ecological knowledge, environmental education, standards-based curriculum design, professional learning, open education resources, and community-centered project-based learning. It will be important to demonstrate that you can bridge science with history-social science, literacy, mathematics, and other subjects, e.g. health and arts.

All LOIs are due by 11:59 p.m. PST on April 8. We will host a pair of webinars for Q&A on March 16 and March 31.

We encourage applications where different groups and individuals come together to submit a single LOI — a developer consortium. We also envision funding multiple groups and individuals to develop the resources; where we invite groups and individuals to work together based on their expertise. Groups and individuals are encouraged to apply if you feel you can contribute to an important component of the overall project. In short, one group can apply for a specific set of grade levels, a specific role across multiple grade levels, or could choose to apply for all of the work outlined.

Please forward this opportunity to your networks.

BACKGROUND

In the 2021–22 fiscal year, San Mateo County Office of Education received a grant from the California Department of Education (per education trailer bill AB 130, SEC 151) to arrange for the creation of K–12 curricular resources focused on climate change and environmental justice. See the press release here. The San Mateo County Office of Education is contracting with Ten Strands to develop, test, refine, distribute, and initially implement the K–12 curricular resources.
