Kevin and Jack are rising seniors at Del Oro High School in Loomis, California. Growing up in Northern California, they have always enjoyed spending time in nature and taking advantage of the beauty it has to offer. However, in recent years constant droughts and wildfires have been destroying the environment around them. They realized that climate change was affecting them firsthand and that they couldn’t sit on the sidelines and watch it happen. So in their freshman year, they started an environmental club with the intent to make their school and community more environmentally friendly. They implemented countless projects, such as composting and recycling, and they raised awareness by showcasing guest speakers and hosting events. After realizing that they can make a difference as youth, they sought to expand their impact by creating a nonprofit organization called Youth Climate Action Coalition (YCAC). YCAC provides a platform for schools to take action against climate change. To date they have worked with over 100 schools from across the nation, and they don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
